In the counseling session, I want you to feel like you are driving the bus. I will use a mode of counseling that fits best with your goals (EMDR, CBT or Ego State Interventions), but you will set the pace. I want you to set the goals you want to achieve and I will help you along the way.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is founded on the basis that our emotional well-being is interwoven with our physical state. Therefore, a body-based technique is used called bilateral stimulation during which I will guide you through through eye movements or taps in order to move a memory that has been incorrectly stored to a more functional part of the brain. During trauma our brain processes and stores memories incorrectly. This incorrect storage can lead to past memories feeling very present. Related or unrelated stimuli in the present can lead to clients reacting as they did at the time of trauma. The brain feels if the past disturbing event is happening currently. EMDR therapy corrects this mis-storage so that the painful memories associated with the trauma lose their charge. The client can react to stimuli in the present without the past interfering.

Most of us have different aspects, “parts,” or “ego states” of ourselves―the silly and imaginative five-year-old part, for example, or the depressed, anxious, or angry adolescent―which manifest as particular moods, behaviors, and reactions depending on the demands of our external and internal environments. “Ego state therapy” refers to a powerful, flexible therapy that helps clients integrate and reconcile these distinct aspects of themselves.
I work with you to set goals and create a path for your therapeutic experience. You may choose to work through your experiences using EMDR, or a blend of approaches may be used. I use a an inter-relational style to address attachment concerns, maladaptive negative beliefs or behavior change. That might include traditional "talk therapy", Cognitive Behavioral Therapy or EMDR.
Certified Perinatal Mental Health Clinician
Did you know? 1 in 7 women and 1 in 10 dads suffer from postpartum depression. I recently completed the certification to become a perinatal mental health clinician. I use different therapeutic approaches to help women struggling with birth trauma, or postpartum mental health difficulties.
